WI vs IND | We had the self-belief: Shikhar Dhawan on India's win in the second ODI

Indian skipper Shikhar Dhawan showered praise on the team for showing self-belief in the win against the West Indies in the second ODI on Sunday.

The second ODI at Queen’s Park Oval also ended in a nail-biting thriller to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Axar Patel's heroic finish helped the men in blue to win by 2 wickets.

Dhawan credits IPL and the domestic circuit for developing players

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Dhawan said that he was also left "surprised" with the batting display of the lower middle-order happiness with the team performance and credited IPL and the domestic circuit for preparing the players for the big stage.

"I feel it was a great team performance. We made mistakes, we took the challenge and we had self-belief. I was also surprised. Hats off to our middle order. All the batters were amazing. Axar (Patel) and Avesh (Khan), who got those boundaries, were amazing. Our domestic and IPL cricket keeps us ready as we play in front of big crowds.”

"Hope is a quality player"

"At the halfway stage, we felt we pulled them. We got a couple of wickets, then (Shai) Hope and (Nicholas) Pooran took off. We thought we can do it if they can. We started slowly, I thought we can take off against left arm spin.

I got out, Shreyas (Iyer) and Sanju (Samson) played well. There was a silly mistake with the run out. But the way Axar played was amazing. Our support staff has been excellent. (On Hope) It was great when I scored a 100 on my 100th match.”
