The new ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle gets underway for India as they lock horns in a two-match Test series against West Indies in their backyard. The first Test will begin tomorrow, July 12, in Dominica, with the second Test starting on July 20 in Trinidad.
Former India captain Virat Kohli, who will be playing his 110th Test, will join Sachin Tendulkar in a unique list of players who have played against two generations of cricketers, namely father-son.
Kohli, who made his Test debut at Kingston in 2011, played against former West Indies captain Shivnarine Chanderpaul then and will now be up against his son Tagenarine, who is set to open the batting for West Indies alongside skipper Kraigg Brathwaite.
Tendulkar achieved a similar feat when he faced off against Geoff Marsh in Australia in 1992 and locked horns against his son Shaun Marsh during the 2011-12 Border Gavaskar Series.
Shivnarine's son Tagenarine has been impressive in his short-Test career thus far, scoring 453 runs in six matches, with one century and as many fifties.
Meanwhile, Kohli will also feature in the One-Day International (ODI) series post the Tests but will take no part in the T20Is. In 14 Tests against the Windies, the 34-year-old has amassed 822 runs, with 463 coming in the Caribbean.
