On Monday, Nellai Royal Kings pulled off a stunning victory against Dindigul Dragons in an exciting Qualifier 2 of the TNPL 2023 at Tirunelveli. The match witnessed a series of incredible moments, leading to a dramatic climax that saw Nellai Royal Kings emerge victorious on the last ball.

Nellai Royal Kings staged an unforgettable comeback

Batting first, Dindigul Dragons set a challenging target of 185 runs on the board. Their batters played exceedingly well to post such a total in a high-pressure game. In response, Nellai Royal Kings faced initial struggles, reaching 129 for 3 in 16.3 overs.

Nidhish Rajagopal, struggling throughout his innings with just 26 runs off 27 balls, eventually retired. With 56 runs required from 21 balls, the arrival of Rithik Easwaran at the crease brought a glimmer of hope for the Royal Kings.

Joining forces with Ajitesh Guruswamy, Easwaran began to find gaps in the field and clear the boundary ropes. Despite their efforts, Nellai Royal Kings still needed a whopping 37 runs from the last two overs to secure victory.

Dindigul captain Vimal Khumar made a bold decision by entrusting the penultimate over to young 23-year-old pacer G Kishoor who had conceded 17 runs in his previous two overs.

The decision to go with Kishoor quickly turned into a nightmare for Dindigul Dragons. Sensing an opportunity, Easwaran unleashed an onslaught against the young bowler as he smashed three consecutive sixes off the first three balls. The fourth ball yielded a single, followed by a massive six from Guruswamy on the fifth delivery.

Clearly rattled, Kishoor's final ball resulted in a no-ball, forcing him to bowl another delivery which was dispatched for a six. The Kings amassed an astonishing 33 runs from the over, swinging the momentum firmly in their favour.

With just four runs needed from the final over, the Kings entered the crease with renewed confidence. Having played a pivotal role in the team's comeback, Easwaran stepped up to the challenge. In a fitting finale, Easwaran sealed victory in style by smashing a six off the final ball, igniting scenes of celebration among the Nellai Royal Kings camp.

The magnificent turnaround propelled Nellai Royal Kings to the TNPL 2023 Final, where they will now face Lyca Kovai Kings on Wednesday, July 12.
