Rohit Sharma went past former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi in the list of most proficient six-hitters in international cricket.

The Indian captain launched three sixes against West Indies in the fourth T20I match at Florida. In doing so, he elevated his sixes tally from 474 to 477, thus putting himself one maximum ahead of the ex-Pakistan all-rounder.

Rohit Sharma made his international debut back in 2007 as a 20-year talent recruited from Mumbai. Since then, the cricketer has struck 477 sixes across the 410 matches he has featured in for his country.

Notably, he overtook Shahid Afridi’s tally in just 427 innings, while the Pakistani legend himself took 508 innings to assemble his six-hitting count.

Former West Indies captain and batting barbarian Chris Gayle continues to stay at the top of the elite pile with a staggering count of 553 sixes, i.e., 76 clear of second-placed Sharma.

Sharma’s opening barrage, followed by rapid knocks from Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel engineered India’s total to 191-5 off their 20 overs.

In response, West Indies fell 59 runs short of their target as the ‘Men in Blue’ claimed the five-match T20I series with a game to spare. The two sides will now fight it out in the final T20I on August 7 at the same venue.
