Cricket West Indies (CWI) has decided to call all-rounder Jason Holder and pacer Alzarri Joseph back to the Caribbean mid-way of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023, where West Indies still have two matches remaining.

As stated by CWI, the decision is taken keeping in mind the workload management for both Holder and Joseph, with the all-format series against India starting July 12.

With West Indies already knocked out of the CWC Qualifiers 2023, the loss of Holder and Joseph won't be felt much. Joseph was Windies' leading wicket-taker in the Qualifiers with 8, while Holder came in third place with 5.

No replacement players have been announced by CWI for the Qualifiers.

Speaking about the decision, Desmond Haynes, Lead Selector men's cricket, explained that the decision was best for all concerned parties.

It was felt the best move at this time: Haynes

"Jason and Alzarri are two of our leading bowlers in all formats. We have a full schedule for the upcoming series against India, where we begin the new ICC World Test Championship, then followed by the ODIs and the five T20Is. Therefore, we had dialogue, and it was felt the best move at this time is to have two of our leading bowlers return early from Zimbabwe."

The Shai Hope-led side will be in action today when they meet Oman in a Super Six encounter at Harare. Meanwhile, the series against India will consist of two-Tests, three-ODIs, and five T20Is.
