  • Wi Vs Ban Stopped Looking At Myself As A Big Hitter Says Rovman Powell After Match Winning Knock

WI vs BAN| 'Stopped looking at myself as a big-hitter’, says Rovman Powell after match-winning knock

The West Indies T20 side has always been filled with power-hitters who, on any given day, can turn the match on its head.

Rovman Powell is one such player. Powell rocketed his way to a 28-ball 61* that saw West Indies put 193 runs on the board against Bangladesh in the second T20I at Dominica.

His knock included two fours and six monstrous sixes, which went a long way in helping his side win the match by 35 runs and gain a 1-0 lead.

Powell, who played some impressive knocks against England earlier in the year, has credited his change of mindset and evolution as a cricketer for his success.

According to Cricbuzz, Powell post-match said: "In anything you do, especially in professional sport, growth is a very important part and you have to grow from skill perspective to mental perspective and in each part I think I am growing and hopefully continue to learn.

"To be honest I stopped looking at myself as a big hitter. I start looking at myself as a batsman with power and with that comes control... know when to look for a single and know when to attack I think that served me well so far".

The 28-year-old lauded Nicholas Pooran (34) and Brandon King (57), who had already laid the foundations for him to excel.

"The platform was already set by captain and Brandon and I think they played well before I got to the crease so it was just an opportunity for me to advance the score and bat all overs and I think I did that today," he added.

He also talked about the pitch, which saw almost 351 runs scored by both teams.

"I think it's a pretty good wicket. It's a very good wicket, especially for batting and you just see five or so balls and get yourself in and then the ball just coming on to the bat and you express yourself as a batsman," the Delhi Capitals player explained.

Powell, much like everyone else, recognized his 22-run over against Shakib Al Hasan as the critical moment that changed the stride in the home side's favour.

"I think picking up match-ups and picking up bowlers to go after is very important and you know today I recognize Shakib wasn't having the best of the day and then I decide to go after him and then I have five overs obviously at the back end. Yeah definitely (getting the big over against Shakib) changed the momentum. We always sit in the batting meet and talk about changing momentum and changing the course of the game and that over today against Shakib did that for us," Powell concluded.

The third and final game of the 3-match series will be played at the Providence Stadium, Guyana, on July 7.

This will be followed by a three-match ODI series beginning July 10.
