WI vs BAN | Bangladesh fined for slow over-rate in 2nd T20I

The performance of Bangladesh in their ongoing West Indies tour has been disastrous as they have lost all three games.

Bangladesh's miseries have been aggravated as they have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in the second T20I of the three-match series.

As per article 2.22 of the ICC code of conduct, the match referee Richie Richardson imposed a 20 percent match fine on the visitors, who were found one over short of their target despite considering time allowances.

In its statement, the ICC said, "In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined 20% of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time".

Bangladesh's T20 skipper Mahmudullah pleaded guilty to the charges levied against the team and accepted the charges, which meant no formal hearing was required.

Trailing by 1-0, the Tigers are set to take on the Windies in the final T20I on Thursday (July 7) in Guayana, hoping to equal the series.

Despite Shakib Al Hasan's best efforts with the bat and ball, Bangladesh could score only 158 runs in reply to West Indies' 193, thereby losing the match by 35 runs.

It was all-rounder Rovman Powell's 28-ball 61 that shifted the tide in the Nicholas Pooran-led team's favour.

To note, the first match of the series played at the same venue was called off due to rain.

The 3-match ODI series between the two teams will commence just after the T20Is, which will see the return of Bangladesh's most experienced batter and captain Tamim Iqbal, set to begin on July 10.

Earlier, West Indies completed a 2-0 clean sweep in the Test series, winning both matches quite comfortably.
