Scott Kuggeleijn re-signed by the St.Lucia Kings in the CPL draft

New Zealand all-rounder Scott Kuggeleijn has been re-signed by the St.Lucia Kings for the upcoming CPL edition after being released by the same franchise the previous year. Along With him, the Kings have also acquired some big names to bolster their campaign.

The 30- year old, who played for the Kings in 2020, was the leading wicket-taker that season. He was released by the franchise last season along with the Afghanistan pair of Mohammad Nabi and Najibullah Zadran. 

With Kuggeleijn's signing, Kings are left with just one more overseas spot left to fill, with last year's captain Faf du Plessis, Tim David and David Wiese in their ranks.

One of the other significant signings for the Kings has been veteran West Indian batter Johnson Charles, who had represented Barbados Royals in 2021, scoring 216 runs in ten games at an impressive strike rate of 122. 

Charles came on board as a pre-draft signing; meanwhile, Roston Chase, Kesrick Wiliams, Alzarri Joseph, Mark Deyal and Jeavor Royal are the retained players from the islands by the Kings franchise. 

As a result, the side now has seven spots left to fill directly, including the one for an overseas player, and those are expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, The Barbados Royals have signed up South African international wicketkeeper batter Quinton De Kock and explosive middle order batter David Miller for the upcoming season of the CPL.

This signing will mark De Kock's debut season at the CPL, while Miller will be playing for his third franchise in the competition after featuring in the earlier seasons for the Jamaica Tallawahs and St Lucia Kings [earlier St Lucia Zouks].

The Royals squad also boasts of many international star players in their set-up. Mystery spinner from Afghanistan Mujeeb Ur Rehman, who has previously played with the Jamaica Tallawahs, as well as Pakistani batter Azam Khan and South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch. However, They still have five more spots to fill at the players' draft tomorrow.

One of the most notable omissions from last year's King's squad is bowling all-rounder Rahkeem Cornwall, who was recently dropped from the list of CWI's centrally contracted players. 

While others not retained by the franchise include Wahab Riaz, Andre Fletcher - who has been signed by St Kitts & Nevis Patriots - and Keemo Paul, who has returned to Guyana Amazon Warriors. 

The Kings will be looking forward to winning the title after losing to the St.Kitts and Nevis Patriots in a thrilling final. King's loss was their second successive defeat in consecutive finals after being defeated by the Knight Riders in the 2020 edition's final.
