WI vs BAN 2022 | Mehidy Hasan, Tamim Iqbal headline Bangladesh’s series-clinching win

Bangladesh romped to a nine-wicket win over West Indies in the second ODI at Guyana. Frugal with the ball in hand, visiting spinners Mehidy Hasan and Nasum Ahmed collected four and three wickets, respectively, thus shooting out the hosts for just 108.

Needing only 109 to win, captain Tamim Iqbal still found time to smear 50* of 62 balls. He was involved in a 64-run second-wicket stand with Liton Das, who himself compiled an unbeaten 32.

Earlier, Bangladesh had defeated Nicholas Pooran’s West Indies with six wickets and 18.1 overs to spare to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match rubber. A few days later, they bettered their performance by thumping the hosts with nine wickets and more than 29 overs remaining.

Nasum Ahmed was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his winning spell of 3-19 from 10 overs. He dismissed three of the West Indies’ top five batters, including captain Pooran within the first 20 overs of the match.

Brief scores:

West Indies: 108/10 (35)

Keemo Paul 25*, Shai Hope 18

Mehidy Hasan 4-29, Nasum Ahmed 3-19

Bangladesh: 112/1 (20.4)

Tamim Iqbal 50*, Liton Das 32*

Gudakesh Motie 1-39

Result: Bangladesh won by 9 wickets (with 176 balls remaining)

The Tamim Iqbal-led side not just secured the series with a game to spare but also recorded their fifth consecutive series triumph. Prior to their ongoing Caribbean trip, the Bangla Tigers trumped over Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and South Africa in succession.

Bangladesh will now face the West Indies in the third ODI at the same venue on July 16.
