Why Did Pakistan Lose Perth Test Vs Australia? Ex-PCB Chief Ramiz Raja Explains

An embarrassing 89 all-out in the final innings relieved Pakistan of their misery as the visitors suffered a humiliating loss to Australia in the opening Test of the three-match series in Perth on Sunday (December 17).

Outplayed in both departments of the game, Pakistan continued a disastrous streak of losing Test matches Down Under, with this being the Asian giants' 15th consecutive defeat at the hands of Australia in Australia.

Over three generations of cricketers have failed to taste success. Pakistan have never clinched a Test series victory on Aussie shores and failed to secure a Test win since their 1995 trip to the country, spanning 28 years and five consecutive whitewashes.

Given the history, expectations weren't high from the Shan Masood-led in-transition Pakistan side when they landed in Australia. However, former opener Ramiz Raja wasn't impressed with the intent and technique of the batting unit throughout the Test match.

"Intent and technique were both missing from Pak’s ‘resistance menu’. Blown away in just 31overs in the second knock was disappointing. Aussies were on another level," Ramiz tweeted.

Pakistan are facing brutal flak and criticism for their failure to withstand one of the finest attacks in the world, which offered them no respite and breathing space at the crease.

The Asian rivals collapsed to 271 in the first innings in response to Australia's imposing 487 all out and then suffered a horrific fate on the final afternoon, chasing 550.

Only veteran opener Imam Ul Haq, with his gritty first-innings 62, made a half-century for Pakistan in either innings, while 24 from young Saud Shakeel was the top score in a horrendous-looking scorecard in the second half for the tourists. The second Test of the three-match series starts on Boxing Day (December 26) in Melbourne.
