On Tuesday, January 14, the ICC released a new promo for Champions Trophy 2025 featuring legendary Wasim Akram. The prestigious fifty-over event will begin in Pakistan on February 19, and almost a month is left for it to start.
What Is White Coat In Champions Trophy?
Amid the preparations, the ICC decided to hype up the event as they unveiled the special white coat that is presented to the Champions Trophy winners. In the promo, Akram highlighted the legacy of this fifty-over event and also shed light on the recent performances of all eight teams participating.
Why Do Winners Get 'Special White Coat' After Winning Champions Trophy?
The visuals of India winning the Champions Trophy 2013 are still fresh in everyone's mind. Further, the post-match presentation was also special when the players lifted the trophy with white blazers on their blue jerseys and Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli dancing. But why do ICC present the white-blazers? Why is it only given in Champions Trophy?
As per ICC, every match counts and it is what exactly the white coat represents. It represents the long legacy of the sport and honour the champions who participate in this prestigious event and fight in every game to beat the bests to become champion.
“The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy represents the best of the best and the unveiling of the white jacket, which symbolizes greatness, will now build the excitement of the event across the global cricket community. Next month’s Champions Trophy will see the strongest team win the tournament, as every game is a pressure game and there is no chance for any team to have a break,” said Akram in a media release.
Thus, the ICC present it to every Champions Trophy winner during post-match ceremony and also go by the belief that the teams not only play for the trophy but also for the prestigious white jackets.
