Looks like the Lucknow Super Giants might finally catch a break. Head coach Justin Langer has confirmed that speedster Mayank Yadav is bowling at “90 to 95 percent” and is close to making his long-awaited return to IPL 2025.

Mayank Yadav Bowling Full Tilt At NCA

Speaking after LSG’s nail-biting win over Mumbai Indians on Friday, Langer sounded hopeful and so will fans be after hearing this update.

Langer revealed that Mayank is back to steaming in at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has been clocking serious pace in the nets.

“Mayank is up and running, which is really great for Indian cricket and for the IPL. I saw some video of him bowling yesterday at the NCA. He was bowling at about 90 to 95%," said Langer at the post-match press conference.

The way he said it, you could tell he was itching to get Mayank Yadav back in the LSG playing XI. And why wouldn’t he be? Mayank was the talk of the town last season, consistently hitting 150+ km/h and rattling stumps for fun.

Freak Toe Injury After Back Trouble

It hasn’t been a smooth ride for the 21-year-old. After recovering from a back injury, he suffered a bizarre toe injury stubbing it against a bed which led to an infection and delayed his comeback further. Just when he was about to take off, fate tripped him up... literally.

But now, the dark clouds seem to be clearing, and Mayank could return in the coming weeks. Langer didn’t drop an exact date but the vibes are positive.

“He’s keen to get going. The NCA have done a great job with our bowlers. They got Avesh Khan and Akash Deep back for us and now hopefully Mayank as well,” Langer added.

LSG Bowlers Hanging In Despite Injury Mayhem

LSG’s bowling unit has been in tatters since day one. They started IPL 2025 without Mayank, Mohsin Khan (ACL tear), Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep.

To plug the hole, they roped in Shardul Thakur and he has delivered. Thakur has grabbed 7 wickets in 4 matches, including a clutch 19th over against MI where he gave away just 7 runs despite facing Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma.

Akash Deep returned on Friday, finishing with 4-0-46-1. Not his best outing, but considering it was his first game in months, not too bad. Meanwhile, Avesh Khan has looked a bit off-colour, just two wickets in three games and struggling with economy. But despite all this, Rishabh Pant's LSG is still fighting tooth and nail in every match, thanks to timely spells and some serious determination.

Mayank Yadav’s return could be the turning point for LSG’s season. With Thakur stepping up and key players gradually returning, Lucknow might just be getting their full arsenal back at the right time. And with Mayank almost ready to roll, LSG’s bowling unit could soon go from patchy to deadly.
