Punjab Kings have made it to the IPL playoffs for the first time in 11 years. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, the team secured a spot in Qualifier 1 and finished their league stage on a high note. They defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in their final league match of the ongoing IPL 2025 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, which helped them end the group stage at the top of the points table.
Punjab Kings had a strong season this year, winning 9 matches, losing 4, and 1 match had no result. They ended the league stage with 19 points. So, when was the last time Punjab Kings topped the table? Read on to find out.
When Was The Last Time Punjab Kings Finished At The Top?
The last time Punjab Kings finished at the top was in the 2014 IPL season. Back then, they played 14 matches, won 11, and lost just 3, ending the league stage with 22 points and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.968.
However, despite topping the table in 2014, they lost in the final to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who won their first IPL title that year. Punjab Kings are still chasing their first IPL trophy after 18 seasons and are hoping this year will be different.
Notably, if RCB win against LSG today by a huge margin, they are likely to finish at the top. However, PBKS, with a superior NRR of 0.372 compared to RCB's 0.255, still have a slim chance.
In their last league game, Mumbai Indians batted first and scored 184 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav played a key role with a quick 57 off 39 balls.
In reply, Punjab Kings comfortably chased down the target in just 18.3 overs. Priyansh Arya scored 62 runs off 35 balls, and Josh Inglis made 73 off 42 balls. Their strong performances helped Punjab win the match by 7 wickets and move to the top of the points table.
