The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is unarguably one of the most intense in the history of sports. Marred with Geopolitical conflicts, players from both teams face extreme pressure to dominate the other. The aftermath has made this contest the most-viewed cricket competition.

Once again, the two arch-rivals are ready to face each other in their first Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match. The high-voltage clash is set to take place on September 21, 2025, at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.

While Men in Blue has routinely overwhelmed their neighbors, especially in the marquee tournaments held by ICC and ACC. However, on some occasions, the Pakistan team has managed to produce big upsets for the Indian team.

Having said that, let's take a look at the Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 match, when Pakistan's all-rounder snatched victory from the jaws of defeat against a star-studded Team India.

Pakistan Clinch A Classic To Upset A High-Flying India

A week after India narrowly defeated Pakistan in their group stage face-off, the Pakistani players returned the favour on September 4, 2025. Asking India to bat first, the Men in Green's bowling line-up controlled the ultra-aggressive Indian batters, despite conceding just 88 in the last 10 overs, limiting them to 181/7 in their 20-over quota.

For India, openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul set the stage high by producing 54 runs for the first wicket. However, a couple of quick wickets put the batting team on the back foot, but not for too long. India's biggest fighter, Virat Kohli, stood up and scored a much-needed 44-ball 60.

Opening the chase, Mohammad Rizwan anchored the innings with 71 off 51. India may not have the pace they needed on a belter of a pitch, which was spin heavy, and initially they looked in control. The duo of Ravi Bishnoi and Yuzvendra Chahal frustrated the top three, with their leading batter, Babar Azam, chipping Bishnoi off the mid-wicket area. And when Fakhar Zaman was out for 15 off 18, Pakistan needed 119 off 68 balls.

A Night to Remember for Nawaz-Rizwan

Nonetheless, it was a kind of night, every all-rounder dreams of achieving. Coming out to bat when Pakistan was 63 for 2 in the ninth over, 28-year-old Mohammad Nawaz stitched a 73-run partnership with Rizwan. Nawaz's innings of 42 off 20 balls, coming in a time of stress, starred with 6 fours and 2 sixes, stunned India after helping Pakistan restrict them with the ball.

The greatest rivalry of Ind vs Pak again looked to be producing a nail-biter of all time. Nonetheless, positive Pakistan's Asif Ali and Khushdil Shah took India's strike bowler, Bhubneshwar Kumar, for 19 runs in the 19th over, the second-costliest at the death in T20 internationals. Lastly, with Pakistan needing 2 runs off the final four balls, Iftikhar Ahmed found the winning runs off a low full-toss.

No Ro-Ko For India, Pakistan Miss Babar-Rizwan’s Pair

Since the last India vs Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 match, a lot has changed. While Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan’s exclusion from the Pakistan team was a shocker, Indian cricket fans too were disheartened to not have the duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The pair and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement after India’s T20 World Cup win in 2024.

India Set To Face Arch-Rivals In Yet Another Controversy-Scarred Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 Match

Dubai International Stadium is yet again preparing to host one of the most talked-about games in the history of sports. The revamped sides of India and Pakistan will face each other, aiming to answer the scrutiny with their performances and not with further controversies.

Considering each team's current form, Suryakumar Yadav's Team India is the favourite for the clash. Meanwhile, volatile-looking Salman Ali Agha's Pakistan squad will have to pull things together for their most important game of the tournament.
