Mohammad Amir, the former Pakistan ace speedster, has taken the India-Pakistan handshake row to the next level with a subtle dig involving Virat Kohli. The controversy around the no-handshake saga between the two teams has already stirred the Asia Cup, and Amir's latest remark has only added more fuel to the fire.

Taking to his official Twitter (formerly X) handle, Mohammad Amir shared a picture with Virat Kohli alongside a witty, and perhaps sarcastic, caption: "One thing is for sure, Virat is the best player and human being in Indian cricket history. Respect."

The picture showed Amir standing beside Virat Kohli, inspecting one of his bats, as the Indian star smiled and engaged with him. While the post radiated mutual respect and admiration, in the context of the ongoing controversy, it appeared more provocative.

What Happened Between India and Pakistan?

For the uninitiated, after India’s massive win against Pakistan in their Asia Cup group-stage clash, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube, the batters at the crease, walked away without greeting the Pakistan players with a handshake.

Later, the Indian dressing room door was reportedly shut to bar outsiders’ entry. This did not go down well with the Pakistan camp, who protested strongly, even threatening to boycott the tournament and demanding the removal of match referee Andy Pycroft.

The handshake drama also spilled over into Pakistan’s next match against the UAE. That game began an hour late as Pakistan pushed for Pycroft’s removal, before finally agreeing to play. After their win, Pakistan even entered UAE’s dressing room to exchange greetings and pleasantries, a gesture that had been missing after the India clash.

Nevertheless, Mohammad Amir’s latest post has reignited tensions ahead of the much-anticipated India vs Pakistan rematch in the Asia Cup Super 4 round. The clash is set to take place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 21.
