Qualifier 1 of IPL 2024 will feature a showdown between the two top teams, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), at Ahemadabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday.  A win in this match will secure a spot in the final, ensuring that both sides will give it their all.

KKR and SRH have faced each other 26 times in IPL history. KKR holds a strong record in this head-to-head competition with 17 wins, while SRH has won 9 matches. However, in playoff encounters, SRH has the advantage, winning 2 out of 3 games.

Their most recent clash took place in Kolkata, where KKR emerged victorious in a thrilling last-over finish. A similar nail-biting match is anticipated on Tuesday night in Ahmedabad, making it worthwhile to revisit their previous encounter.

When KKR Faced SRH In Kolkata

Batting first, KKR’s opener Phil Salt set the tone early, smashing Marco Jansen for three consecutive sixes in the second over. KKR's Powerplay woes from the previous season persisted, as they lost three wickets within the first six overs.

Salt departed shortly after reaching his fifty, paving the way for Rinku Singh and Andre Russell to take charge. Russell's explosive 20-ball fifty, coupled with Rinku's support, propelled Kolkata to a mammoth total of 208, as they added 85 runs in the last five overs.

Chasing a daunting target of 209, SRH had a steady start. Despite their promising starts, neither opener- Mayank Agarwal or Abhishek Sharma could convert, leaving the middle order to build on their foundation.

Klaasen almost pulled off a miracle

At the halfway mark, SRH were in the run-chase, with Rahul Tripathi and Aiden Markram tasked with maintaining the required run rate. However, they struggled against Kolkata's spinners, leaving Heinrich Klaasen with a monumental task.

Klaasen fought valiantly, but Abdul Samad's struggles added to the pressure. With 60 runs needed from the last three overs, Klaasen found some support from Shahbaz Ahmed, bringing Hyderabad close to victory.

Unfortunately, both fell at crucial moments in the final over, and Pat Cummins failed to connect with the ball on the last delivery, leaving Hyderabad just short of the target.
