'We never really got going,' says England coach Matthew Mott on series loss to South Africa

England's white-ball coach Matthew Mott's coaching stint got off to a disastrous start as his team failed to win a single Limited Overs series at home this summer.

After losing ODI and T20I series against the Men in Blue, the Jos Buttler-led side succumbed to a 90-run loss to South Africa in the third and final T20I in Southampton to lose the series 2-1.

Mott blames the batters

Matthew Mott, who took the role in May following Chris Silverwood's resignation as head coach, conceded that English batters never got going in the series and had failed to pose a serious challenge to the Proteas side.

"They were a bit over par with the bat and clearly we just lost too many wickets to mount a challenge at the end. It ends up with a bit of a sour taste on the last day."

This is a Line in the Sand Moment

In Mott's first assignment as the head coach, England shellacked Netherlands 3-0 in Amstelveen, mounting an ODI record 498 in the first game.

However, they have failed to replicate the same success at home, losing back-to-back white-ball series against India and South Africa.

"We've had ups and downs throughout the summer. We've played two great teams and came out second both times so we're disappointed."

Mott further reckoned that the Twenty20 series defeat against South Africa is a "line in the sand" moment for the Three Lions ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.
