WBBL 8 | Hannah Darlington signs three-year extension with Sydney Thunder

Right-arm medium-fast bowler Hannah Darlington has extended her contract for another three years with Sydney Thunder in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL).

Darlington has been a key wicket-taker for the Thunder team in the recent editions of the WBBL.

"I was really excited to get offered a long-term deal," Darlington said.

"I think after spending five years at the club now since I was 15, it's been a while, but it's a real honour to have that hard work pay off and allow me to stay with the club."

The right-arm pacer scalped 19 wickets in 14 appearances to lead the side to their second title win in the 2020/21 edition.

After her impressive performances in the WBBL, the 20-year-old made her debut for the Australian team in the ODIs and T20Is against India. She has two wickets in as many appearances in the 50-overs format.

In the last edition of the Tournament, Darlington picked up 13 wickets and scored 60 runs. In 40 matches, the Penrith-born has 51 scalps at an economy of 6.48, with best bowling figures of 3/29.

Darlington's records in WBBL:

At 19 years and 262 days, Darlington became the youngest player to captain a WBBL side, surpassing the likes of Meg Lanning and Sophie Molineux.

At 15, she was the youngest contracted player in the Tournament in 2017. In the same edition, the talented bowler was chosen as the recipient of the Young Gun award.

Furthermore, Darlington has opted to skip the T20 World Cup scheduled later this year due to her responsibilities as the leader of her state team and Thunder.
