WBBL 8 | Mikayla Hinkley extends her contract with Brisbane Heat

With 100 days to go for the eighth season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), there have been some new announcements/signings in the past few days.

The latest development comes from Brisbane Heat, who have retained the services of the right-handed batter, Mikayla Hinkley. She has extended her contract for another two years.

After the announcement, Hinkey spoke to the media and expressed her excitement for the upcoming season. She also added that the team have a solid line-up.

“It’s pretty awesome, and only 100 days to go for WBBL, and couldn’t be more excited. It’s gonna be a really interesting year, we have a very strong line-up, so to be part of that, I am very excited. I just hope I can spark a little bit of flame in some girls to play for the Brisbane Heat”.

The Queensland batter has garnered 296 runs in 28 innings of the WBBL at a strike rate of 91.36, while registering a top score of 49*. She has been an excellent fielder as well and has pocketed 18 catches.

Earlier this year, Hinkley amassed 319 runs at an average of 53.16, and was the top run-getter for the Victoria team in the Women’s National Cricket League, with a top score of 121.

The 24-year-old is the first player in the WBBL to feature for different teams since the inaugural edition of the Tournament.

She played for the Sydney Thunder in two editions and then went on to play for the teams like Perth Scorchers and Hobart Hurricanes.

The 5th edition saw her joining the Heat squad, and since then, she has been a regular member of the side.
