Indian cricketers Washington Sundar and Tilak Varma took a spiritual detour ahead of the T20I series opener against Australia, offering prayers at the Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy Vari Devasthanam temple in Visakhapatnam. The duo engaged in a special ritual on Thursday, seeking divine blessings for success in the upcoming series.

This visit echoes a recurring practice within the Indian cricket team, emphasizing the players' inclination towards seeking spiritual support before crucial matches. Earlier in the year, team members, including Sundar and Suryakumar Yadav, visited Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple.

In addition to the Simhachalam temple, the Indian cricket team has previously sought blessings at prominent religious sites such as the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram during the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

As the team gears up for the T20I series against Australia, Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in the absence of the injured Hardik Pandya. Ruturaj Gaikwad, serving as vice-captain for the first three games, will subsequently hand over the responsibility to Shreyas Iyer for the last two matches.

This series marks the beginning of India's preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024, with a young and dynamic squad featuring talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Axar Patel.
