In the wake of back-to-back defeats for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024 season, team mentor Sachin Tendulkar and captain Hardik Pandya stepped forward to boost the team's morale.

After a thrilling match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which set new IPL records for the highest total score and the number of sixes in a game, Mumbai Indians faced a 31-run defeat.

The match, played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, witnessed a staggering total of 523 runs and 38 sixes, with Sunrisers Hyderabad setting an unprecedented highest total of 277/3. Mumbai Indians, in a bold response, managed 246/5 runs, showcasing their fighting spirit.

In the aftermath, Sachin Tendulkar took the opportunity to encourage his team, highlighting the positive aspects of their performance. He highlighted that despite the high score by the opposition in the first half, the game's outcome was uncertain well into the second half.

"In the second half, in spite of scoring 277, 10 overs down the line nobody knew who was a clear winner. The game was very much open. That's a clear-cut sign that we've batted really well. There are going to be tougher moments. We will stick together as a group and pull it through," said Tendulkar.

Hardik Pandya, echoing Tendulkar's sentiments, drew on the metaphor of soldiers facing tough tests to describe the team's resilience.

He praised the team for their determination and spirit, noting that the players remained eager to contribute even under pressure. The lanky all-rounder urged the team to support one another regardless of the circumstances.

"Toughest soldiers get the toughest test. And we are the toughest team in the competition. Anyone who would have come even close to where we reached, as a batting group or as just overall Mumbai Indians, are us. Something I am really proud of is our bowlers. Even when the day was tough, I didn't see no one running away. Worst. Bad. Good. We will manage it together," added Hardik.

Following a challenging start to the IPL 2024 season with two consecutive defeats, Mumbai Indians will aim to turn their fortunes around. Their quest for victory begins at their first home match of the season, where they will face off against the Rajasthan Royals.

This crucial game is scheduled for Monday, April 1, at the Wankhede Stadium, where the Mumbai Indians will be keen to register their inaugural win of the tournament.
