WATCH: Stokes' luck runs out as Jasprit Bumrah claims a stunner at mid-off to send him packing

England Test skipper Ben Stokes' charmed life finally came to an end with his counterpart Jasprit Bumrah pulling off a stunning reverse-cup at mid-off.

Stokes (25 off 36 deliveries) once again came out all guns blazing on a gloomy morning in Edgbaston. His approach, much like the series against New Zealand, borderlined on recklessness.

The Durham all-rounder was let off by Shardul Thakur when he was on 19 after he had needlessly charged down the track with the intention to deposit Mohammed Shami out of the Edgbaston Cricket Ground.

However, he was in no control of it and ended up skying it. But to his good fortune, Shardul shelled it.

Shardul nearly dismissed Stokes on the third delivery of his first over when the latter tried to smash him down the ground, but this time Jasprit Bumrah ended up dropping a sitter at mid-off.

However, Stokes finally ran out of luck as he went for the same shot this time, but Jasprit was quick to leap across to his left and reverse-cup a sensational catch to send his counterpart packing.

That said, the morning session of the 3rd day was dominated by the in-form Jonny Bairstow.

Bairstow, who looked all at sea against the pace of Shami and Bumrah on the last evening and during the initial stages of the morning session, threw caution to the winds once he got his eye in.

The right-hander was engaged in a verbal duel with Virat Kohli, and it may have just charged him up a bit as he went from being on 16 off 64 to policing his way to an unbeaten 113-ball 91.

Shardul nearly dismissed Bairstow's leg-before-wicket, but an inside edge off his bat saved him.

At the time of writing, England were 200/6 in the 46th over before the proceedings came to an end due to inclement weather.
