Indian cricket’s rising star Shubman Gill was recently papped having lunch in the metro city of Mumbai with his sister Shahneel Gill and close friends before he gears up for the big Test series against England.
Shubman Gill has had a roller coaster start to the year 2024. After a flop show in South Africa, the batter was dropped against Afghanistan in the recently concluded three-game T20I series. Moreover, the inclusion of Yashasvi Jaiswal has threatened Gill’s opening slot in T20Is.
Thus, going into the crucial Test series against England, Shubman Gill will walk with a chip on his shoulder. He will, in a way, be fighting for survival. Regardless, the series isn’t happening until next week, and thus, Gill is making the most of the free time to unwind and reconnect with his friends and family.
Shubman Gill was recently papped in Mumbai, exiting a restaurant with his friends and sister Shahneel Gill. He acknowledged the paparazzi but refused to pose as he hurriedly reached for his car.
With only a week to go for the series opener in Hyderabad, Gill chose to spend some quality time with his close and dear ones before the series grind began.
The BCCI-appointed selection committee locked India’s squads for the first two games earlier this month. While uncapped player Dhruv Jurel has earned a maiden call-up, Shubman Gill is will continue batting at 3 in order to accommodate Jaiswal at the top.
Apparently, the team management was left impressed with Jaiswal’s grit against South Africa and wanted to see what he has to offer on home conditions. Moreover, since Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane missed out, the number 3 spot is vacant.
Thus, for the time being, Indian team management intends to test Gill at number 3 and then alter the plan as per future circumstances.
