In an unfortunate turn of events, Gujarat Titans' mainstay Kane Williamson seems doubtful to take part in the remainder of the IPL 2023 opener against Chennai Super Kings, as he suffered a deadly injury during the game.
Williamson, who was fielding at the deep mid wicket, executed a stunning effort to save a certain six. Although he saved crucial two runs for his side, the legendary batter from New Zealand seriously damaged his knee, making himself doubtful for the rest part of the game.
The incident occurred in the 13th over of CSK's innings, which was well on course for a fitting finish, thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad's magnificent fifty.
On the third ball of the over, Irish speedster Joshua Little bowled a back-of-length delivery to Gaikwad, who connected it superbly. As the ball was about to travelled over the fence, Williamson launched himself in the air to put up a commendable effort and save an inevitable six.
Although his fielding effort received plaudits from all corners of the world, Williamson fell awkwardly on the ground, sustaining a right knee injury in this process. After a while, the 32-year-old was carefully carried off by two of the GT support staff to the pavilion.
The injury looked scary and as it seems, Williamson, who has been injury-prone of late, might not come out to bat in the latter half of the game. If he misses out on batting, it will be interesting to see who the Titans use as an impact player in the game.
