In the Champions Trophy semifinal match against Australia, India star Hardik Pandya played an outstanding innings that helped his team reach the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final on March 4. During the match at the Dubai International Stadium, Pandya hit a huge six off bowler Tanveer Sangha. The ball sailed high and landed right in the VIP area—specifically, the ‘Royal Box’ where ICC Chairman Jay Shah was sitting.

In a playful moment that looked almost like a kid’s game, Shah picked up the ball and tossed it back while laughing with IPL Governing Council member Arun Dhumal. The ICC even shared a short video clip of the fun exchange on social media.
Pandya contributed a quick 28 runs to the chase, including three big sixes, which helped ease the pressure on his team as they comfortably chased Australia’s score.
Team India Marches Into Champions Trophy Final
This win marked India’s first victory over Australia in a major knockout one-day international tournament since 2011. The team left behind the disappointments of the 2023 World Cup final and rose to the occasion in the Champions Trophy. Virat Kohli played with great energy on the field, and India’s bowlers did a solid job by restricting Australia to 264 runs on a slow pitch.
Kohli’s spirited fielding--taking sharp catches and celebrating every wicke--kept the team’s energy high. Even when India lost captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Shubman Gill early in the game, the team managed to finish the chase thanks to Kohli’s determined run-scoring.
Now, India will face either South Africa or New Zealand in the final on Sunday in Dubai. Meanwhile, South Africa and New Zealand will compete in the second semifinal in Lahore on Wednesday, March 5.
