Watch: Ben Stokes gets hit on the box while trying to pull Marnus Labuschagne

Newly-appointed England Test captain Ben Stokes endured a painful moment during his innings for Durham in the ongoing Division 01 County Championship fixture against Glamorgan.

It all happened on the first afternoon of the four-day fixture on Thursday when Stokes, who was batting on 33 at the time, decided to pull a short delivery from Australia's Marnus Labuschagne.

However, the champion left-handed batter ended up inside-edging it on his crown jewels and immediately fell on the ground.

Nevertheless, Stokes soon recovered and continued his fine form in the ongoing County Championship.

After having smoked a whirlwind 88-ball 161- an innings which included eight fours and as many as 17 sixes- against Worcestershire last week, Stokes backed it up with another fine batting effort in the first innings.

The southpaw scored 82 off 110 deliveries with the help of eight fours and a couple of sixes, along with the likes of wicket-keeper Ned Eckersley and Ben Raine, who added valuable runs to help Durham post 311 in their first innings.

Stokes' rich vein of form is a good sign for the England Test team, and the new skipper will look to carry it to the international arena when he kicks off his stint against New Zealand at Lord's next month.

Stokes hasn't been at his best with the bat in recent times. He struggled on turning tracks of India last year, with Ravichandran Ashwin making him his bunny.

He was plagued with injury and mental health issues for a major part of the year in 2021 and missed the entire home summer against New Zealand and India.

He made a return to the Test team during the Ashes series in the winter but looked a pale shadow of himself.

With the England Test team ushering in a new era under him and head coach Brendon McCullum, the all-rounder will look to lead from the front.
