It was a day to remember for Babar Azam as his team locked horns with England in the second T20 International of the seven-match series. Playing at the National Stadium in Karachi, the skipper roared back to form. Babar was going through a lean patch in international cricket.

The opening batter could score only 68 runs in six Asia Cup 2022 games while the first T20I against England saw him walking back after adding 31 runs to the scoreboard. Following a series of poor performances, Babar smacked a much-needed century in the second T20 International.

As Pakistan were set to chase 200 runs, the opening batter played a blistering knock of 110* runs off just 66 balls. His knock included 11 boundaries and five maximums at a strike rate of 166.67. Meanwhile, Babar also stitched an unbeaten partnership of 203 runs with the other opening batter Mohammad Rizwan as Pakistan cruised to a win by ten wickets.

Akram advises Babar

Former Pakistan skipper Wasim Akram seemed highly impressed with the current captain. Though the legendary cricketer lauded the batter for his aggressive innings, he also gave a piece of hilarious advice. Akram gave him a solution when it comes to facing spinners in the middle. The left-arm fast-bowler told Babar to just close his eyes while batting against a spin bowler.

In a video by A Sports, Akram stated:

"I'll tell Babar what I used to do when I didn't understand a spinner... close your eyes, clear the front foot and take a wild swing towards mid-wicket.”

Babar Azam reflects on the victory

Meanwhile, Babar also reflected on his brilliant performance. The 27-year-old believes that bowling first helped as batting was easier under the lights. Notably, it was English skipper Moeen Ali who won the toss, but he opted to bat first. The unbeaten 110-run knock was extremely important for the right-hander as he was under major scrutiny following Pakistan’s loss against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final.

Babar mentioned:

"We had done it in the past so we had the belief that we can do it again. It was easier batting second under lights and Rizwan was superb so we did it together and that is a very confidence-boosting win.”

The Pakistan captain will be now hoping to continue his fine performances and build some form ahead of the T20I World Cup in Australia.
