Indian cricket fans are still grappling with the aftermath of India's heartbreaking loss to Australia in the ODI World Cup 2023 Final. As the wounds slowly heal, a viral sensation has emerged featuring images of batting stalwart Virat Kohli and French footballer Kylian Mbappe strolling past World Cup trophies.

India's journey in the ICC ODI World Cup was unmarred until they faced Australia in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, ultimately conceding the title to the Pat Cummins-led side.

Kohli's impact during the tournament was remarkable, with three centuries and six half-centuries underscoring his dominance. In 11 matches, Kohli amassed a staggering 765 runs at an average of 95.62, establishing a record for the most runs in a single World Cup edition. He broke numerous records.

The Delhi-based cricketer became the first and only Indian cricketer to achieve 50+ scores in the semi-final and final of an ODI World Cup. Despite earning the Player of the Tournament accolade, Kohli's emotions were laid bare as he teared up following the loss.

Similarly, Kohli and Mbappe, both exceptional performers for their respective teams, faced the shared disappointment of falling short in securing the ultimate victory.

Mbappe, who was absolutely brilliant for France throughout the 2022 FIFA World Cup, experienced a similar fate. Emerging as the tournament's top goal-scorer, he made history by scoring a hat-trick in the final.

However, his team succumbed to Lionel Messi's Argentina in a penalty shootout. Like Kohli, Mbappe found himself on the cusp of winning another World Cup for his country, only to see that dream shattered.

Fans drew parallels between the two sporting stars as images of Kohli and Mbappe walking past World Cup trophies went viral.

In 2019, Kohli, when asked about potential successors to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, singled out Mbappe, praising his outstanding performance in the 2018 World Cup against Argentina and hailing him as a top-class player.

"Kylian Mbappe stands out for me. His sprint in the 2018 World Cup against Argentina is hard to forget. He's a beast and he will definitely be at the top of the pile for me. Absolutely top-class player,"  said Kohli.

While the wounds from the ODI World Cup 2023 may still be fresh, Kohli is poised to channel those experiences as motivation for redemption. His sights are set on the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled in the West Indies and USA, where he aims to lead India to victory and add one more World Cup trophy to India's cabinet.
