Former Indian cricketer-turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar has reckoned that the addition of power game in his armoury has led to Virat Kohli's resurgence in the shortest format of the game.
The legendary Kohli returned to form in the Asia Cup, with impactful knocks against Pakistan and a breathtaking 61-ball 122* against Afghanistan to end the wait for his 71st international hundred.
More than his runs, it's the way Virat scored runs that have convinced the cricketing folklore, including Manjrekar that the superstar batter may well have regained his mojo.
Apart from hitting disdainful pull shots against high-pace, both in front and backward of square, it was his footwork, especially against spinners, which stood out.
Analysing Virat Kohli's resurgence in the Asia Cup, Sanjay Manjrekar said:
"Asia Cup, it was almost like it was made for Virat Kohli. India have not won but this Asia Cup has helped Virat Kohli a lot. When he scored runs in the first match, I saw that he played three pull shots, which he was not playing at a time when he was unable to score runs and I thought that this was a good development.
"In the second match when he scored his second fifty, his power game came to fore and in the last game, the graph reached its pinnacle. Against Afghanistan you saw all the boxes ticked, ranges of shots were available. The sixes that he hit went very far and when he knows that he can call upon the power game when he needs it, that takes a lot of pressure away from Virat Kohli."
