In a remarkable turn of events, legendary Indian batter Virat Kohli has etched his name in history, becoming the first-ever batter to breach the 7000-run landmark in Indian Premier League.

Most Runs in IPL

  • Virat Kohli: 7000* runs in 225 innings
  • Shikhar Dhawan: 6536 runs in 212 innings
  • David Warner: 6189 runs in 171 innings
  • Rohit Sharma: 6063 runs in 232 innings
  • Suresh Raina: 5528 runs in 200 innings

Since debuting in 2008, Kohli has established himself as the backbone of Royal Challengers Bangalore. The talismanic Indian batter has been a force to reckon with the bat, scripting countless memorable wins for the Bangalore-based franchise over the years.

His most incredible season in the tournament came in 2016, where he amassed 973 runs, including four centuries, at a superb average of 81.08 and a blistering strike rate of 152.03. However, like most of his contemporaries, he underwent a slump in form, which reflected in his numbers in the last three seasons.

But after putting an end to his century drought in the Asia Cup last year, Kohli regained his mojo and consistency, particularly in the white-ball formats.

After performing admirably in a couple of ODI series, the veteran batter translated his success into the IPL this season, slamming five half centuries in nine outings.

Furthermore, he is in sublime touch against the Capitals tonight, as his partnership with skipper Faf du Plessis has ensured a solid start for RCB, who are placed at 36 for no loss in five overs as of writing.
