Cricket icon Virat Kohli turned the Arun Jaitley Stadium into a hive of anticipation on Tuesday as he participated in an intense training session ahead of Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match. Notably, Delhi prepares to host Railways in an Elite Group D clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Marking his first appearance in India’s premier domestic red-ball tournament since 2012, Virat Kohli’s return has electrified fans blending nostalgia with the urgency of a global superstar reacquainting himself with the grind of first-class cricket. For the unaware, the marquee fixture is scheduled from January 30 to February 2.

Clad in white training jersey, the 35-year-old was seen training and  jogging alongside his young Delhi teammates underscoring his commitment despite a recent neck sprain that delayed his comeback.

After a light jog, Kohli was seen warming up with light stretches and dynamic exercises while interacting with his teammates.

Meanwhile, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has left nothing to chance, deploying extra security personnel and coordinating with Delhi Police to manage the expected surge of fans.

“We have enhanced our private security, so we have initiated all these arrangements, and we will attempt to ensure there is no inconvenience for the fans when they come on January 30 to see the match,” said DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma.

The stadium meanwhile, is bracing for packed stands as Kohli's presence will grace the venue as the Indian star returns in the domestic circuit after 12 long years.

Kohli Eyes To Regain Form

Meanwhile, Virat needs to get back into the Ranji Trophy to regain his rhythm and form in the longest format of cricket. Looking at his stats, in 2024, he’s played 15 matches across all formats and only managed to score 319 runs, averaging 18.76. It’s been a tough year for him, and it’s clear that he hasn’t been at his best with the bat.

Notably, Rishabh Pant’s absence due to national duties shifts the spotlight squarely onto Kohli, whose presence is seen as a masterstroke to revive interest in the tournament. For Kohli though this won't be just a comeback, but a chance to prove himself in the whites again.
