India star batter Virat Kohli has moved ahead of his teammate Rohit Sharma to become the No. 1 ODI batter in the latest ICC men's rankings. This change came after Kohli’s excellent performance in the first ODI against New Zealand.

On Wednesday, Virat Kohli climbed from second place to the top spot with a rating of 785. At the same time, Rohit Sharma slipped down two places and is now ranked third with a rating of 775. Meanwhile, New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell moved up to second place with a career-best rating of 784.

Virat Kohli rules latest ICC ODI Rankings

Importantly, Virat Kohli is currently in great form and enjoying a strong run of performances. In fact, he has scored 50+ runs in each of his last five ODI matches.

Notably, this remarkable run shows his consistency and hunger for runs. His latest achievement came during the first ODI against New Zealand, where he scored a vital 93 runs off 91 balls. Because of his calm and controlled innings, India successfully chased a challenging target of 301 runs and took a 1–0 lead in the ongoing three-match series.

Moreover, Kohli’s recent scores clearly show how strong his form has been. Since the ODI series in Australia, he has scored 74 not out, 135, 102, 65 not out, and now 93 in his last five ODI innings.

In addition to this, Kohli’s rise to the number one ranking is not new territory for him. He first became the top-ranked ODI batter in October 2013. This is now the 11th time the Indian legend has reached the number one position in his career.

Overall, Kohli has spent a total of 825 days at the top of the ODI rankings, which is the most by any Indian player and the 10th highest by any cricketer in the world.

Daryl Mitchell rises to second place in ICC rankings

On the other hand, Daryl Mitchell’s rise to second place was also well deserved. He played a strong knock of 84 runs off 71 balls in the same match against India. Although his effort was impressive, it was not enough to secure a win for New Zealand, as India chased down the target comfortably in Vadodara.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma managed to score only 26 runs in that match, which contributed to his drop in the ICC ODI rankings.

Elsewhere in the rankings, Indian captain Shubman Gill and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer held on to their positions, remaining fifth and tenth respectively among ODI batters.

Rashid Khan remains at top in ICC ODI bowlers' rankings

Similarly, the top ten ODI bowlers’ rankings remained unchanged, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan continuing to lead the list.

However, there was some good news for India in the bowling rankings, as pacer Mohammed Siraj climbed five places to reach 15th position, sharing the spot with Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz with a rating of 580.
