TNPL 2022 | Varun Chakravarthy, Sunny Sandhu Shine as Madurai Panthers thrash Dindigul by 7 wickets

In a rather one-sided affair, Siechem Madurai Panthers outclassed Dindigul Dragons by seven-wicket to register their third win of the TNPL 2022 in four matches.

Dindigul Dragons could never really excavate any momentum in this match as they were knocked off for a below-par total. In response, the N Chaturved-led side hunted down the target in just 15.3 overs to register a dominating triumph.

Chasing a modest total of 123, SMP opener Arun Karthik provided a flying start to the team, smashing 41 runs off 31 balls with the help of seven fours.

Vignesh S Iyer, who was playing his first game of the season, couldn't make a huge impact as he was dismissed for just 11 runs. Coming to bat at 3, the left-handed batter Balchander Anirudh then took the matter into his hand and whacked unbeaten 51 runs off just 34 balls to help Madurai complete the chase in just 15.3 overs.

For Dindigul Dragons, L Vignesh, M Silambarasan and VP Diran bagged one wicket each. Earlier after being asked to bat first, Dindigul Dragons batters dished out an underwhelming performance, putting up a target of just 123 on the board.

The right-arm speedster Sunny Sandhu and spin maestro Varun Chakravarthy produced a clinical show with the ball to keep the Dindigul Dragons batters on a backfoot.

RS Mokit Hariharan top-scored for Dindigul Dragons with an unbeaten 43 runs off 31 balls. Skipper Hari Nishanth (26-ball 24) and wicket-keeper batter Mani Bharathi's (22-ball 18) partnership was well blooming before both of them were engaged in awful runouts to walk back to the pavilion.

Apart from the aforementioned trio, none of the other batters could cross the 10-run mark. Sunny Sandhu (3-11), and Varun Chakravarthy (2-14) starred with the ball for the Panthers as the duo bowled economically and shared five scalps between them.

Brief Score:

Dindigul Dragons: 122/9 (20 Overs)

Mokit Hariharan 43*(31), Hari Nishanth 24 (26); Sunny Sandhu 3-11 (4), Varun Chakravarthy 2-14 (4)

Siechem Madurai Panthers: 126/3 (15.3 Overs)

Arun Karthik 41 (31), Balchander Anirudh 51* (34); L Vignesh 1-23 (3), M Silambarasan 1-24 (4)

Siechem Madurai Panthers won by 7 wickets.

Happy Birthday MS Dhoni | Top Five knocks in his glittering career

The date 7th of July holds a special place for cricket fanatics as it marks the birth anniversary of talismanic Indian wicket-keeper batsman and leader, MS Dhoni. In this article, we take a look at some of the finest innings in his international career. 148 vs Pakistan, Visakhapatnam 2005 Having already won the series opener in Kochi, the then Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly promoted Dhoni to No.3 after Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed in the fourth over. After registering scores of 0, 12, 7* and 3 in his first four international outings, Dhoni announced himself on the biggest stage with a stroke-filled 148 off 123 balls. This masterstroke of a decision was a key factor in this outstanding innings by the young wicket-keeper batter. 183* vs Sri Lanka, Jaipur 2005 Dhoni came in at No.3 after Sachin Tendulkar was dismissed in the first over itself. He was sent in to keep the required run-rate within India's reach due to his big-hitting abilities. He hit 15 fours and 10 sixes in a brutal display of ball striking. The Ranchi-born went past Adam Gilchrist's 172 in the process, registering the highest score for a wicket-keeper batter in one-day cricket. Dhoni's match-winning innings of 183* against Sri Lanka broke all kinds of records. His tally of 10 sixes was a record for an Indian batsman in ODIs until Rohit Sharma bettered it during his double century against Australia in Bangalore in 2013. 91* vs Sri Lanka, Mumbai 2011 The iconic "Dhoni finishes off in style, a magnificent strike into the crowd, India lift the World Cup after 28 years" still rings fresh in the ears of each Indian. 11 years ago, India lifted the World Cup. Sri Lanka posted 274, thanks to Mahela Jayawardena's scintillating ton. India lost both their openers Virender Sehwag (0 off 2) and Tendulkar (18 off 14) early against Malinga. After that, it was MS Dhoni (91*) who decided to join Gambhir (97) in the middle after Kohli's (35 off 49) wicket. Notably, it was Yuvraj Singh (Best Player of the 2011 WC), who had been batting up to that point at the no. 5 position in that tournament, but MSD decided to go a number up in the final. 224 vs Australia, Chennai 2013 Dhoni scored his first double ton in Test cricket against Australia back when India hosted the Michael Clarke-led side in 2013. India was in a tricky situation after Australia posted 380 in the first innings. MS gathered a 128 runs partnership with Virat Kohli for the fifth and later partnered 140 runs with Bhuvneshwar Kumar for the ninth wicket. 'Captain Cool' smashed 24 boundaries and six maximums in his extraordinary knock of 224 runs. 45* vs Sri Lanka, Trinidad 2013 Another final, another crisis situation, another thrilling finish with an authoritative six – Dhoni's last-over blitz in the Celkon Cup final against Sri Lanka in 2013 will go down as an all-time classic. Having missed the previous three games due to injury, Dhoni walked in to join a well-set Rohit Sharma, with India in a strong position to chase a target of 202. However, a dramatic collapse saw them stumble from 139/3 to 182/9, with Dhoni stranded at one end. With 17 needed off the last two overs, Ishant survived the penultimate one from Angelo Mathews before Dhoni took Shaminda Eranga for three boundaries in the final over.
