In a massive celebratory development for women's cricket, the matches between India and Australia, and India and England in the Women's World Cup have been completely sold out. This marks an unprecedented level of fan engagement, as women’s cricket has witnessed sold-out crowds for two of India’s biggest group-stage fixtures.
According to records, fans have purchased 15,087 tickets for the Australia match and 17,859 tickets for the England encounter, indicating packed venues for both games.
Ticket sales see record high!
India Women will face Australia in Visakhapatnam on October 12 and will play against England in Indore on October 19. This surge in ticket sales is not unexpected, as 22,843 spectators attended India’s campaign opener against Sri Lanka in Guwahati, the highest-ever attendance for a group-stage game at an ICC Women’s event.
Notably, India’s remaining group-stage fixtures are also attracting huge crowds. For instance, the India vs New Zealand contest on October 23 is 90% sold out, while the India vs Bangladesh fixture on October 26 has already seen 82% of tickets sold.
ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta shared his reaction to the massive turnout of crowds and record ticket sales in Women's cricket.
“We saw this World Cup as an opportunity to deepen the connection between fans and the women’s game. The turnout in Guwahati and the early sell-outs in Indore and Vizag show how far the women’s game has come, and how much further it can go," Gupta stated.
India Women lead with wins
The record-breaking ticket sales have matched India’s on-field performance, with the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side in red-hot form since the start of the tournament.
So far, India Women has played two matches, securing two wins with a positive net run rate of 1.515. They are currently facing South Africa Women in their third encounter, which, if it ends in a positive result, will place the Women in Blue at the top of the points table.
