Trent Rockets to miss Tabraiz Shamsi as South African opts to play CPL

South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has opted to play in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and give a miss to The Hundred 2022 Men's final. Shamsi, who featured for the Trent Rockets in the 100-ball tournament, came in as a replacement for Afghanistan's Rashid Khan, who is currently playing in the Asia Cup 2022.

Shamsi will feature for the Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2022, which begins on August 31. The Warriors' opening match clashes with the Rockets' final at Lord's on September 3. The leg-spinner played six matches for the Rockets, claiming five wickets.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo,  Rockets won't be able to secure a replacement, and will have to field a foreign player, who must have registered for the competition in group stage. This ruling came into existence after Tim David played for Southern Brave in the final last year.

Fellow countryman Marchant de Lange is the only foreign player in the Rockets' squad, apart from Colin Munro and Daniel Sams.

However, coach Andy Flower will be tempted to play off-spinner Matthew Carter as a like-for-like replacement.
