Temba Bavuma set for return [Source: AFP]
South Africa Test and ODI captain Temba Bavuma is set to make his return to competitive cricket later this month. The 35-year-old has been included in South Africa A squad for the upcoming unofficial tour of India.
Bavuma is placed in South Africa A’s first-class team for the two-match series, set to be played between October 30 and November 9 in Bengaluru. Despite being his nation’s Test captain, the seasoned pro will be playing under the leadership of uncapped up-and-coming talent Marques Ackerman.
Temba Bavuma to face India A after calf injury
Temba Bavuma last played international cricket back in September during South Africa’s white-ball tour of England. It is worth noting that a calf injury in England ruled Bavuma out of South Africa’s ongoing Test and ODI tour of Pakistan.
With an aim of rejoining the South Africa national team in next month’s Test and ODI series in India, Temba Bavuma has been included in South Africa A squad for the two-match unofficial Test series against India A in Bengaluru. The senior middle-order batter will be available to play the second of the two matches at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground.
South Africa A’s four-day squad also includes captain Marques Ackerman, Zubayr Hamza, Codi Yusuf and Prenelan Subrayan.
The South Africa A team will play a series of two unofficial Tests and three 50-overs matches against India A in Bengaluru and Rajkot between October 30 and November 19. The fag end of the junior tour will run concurrently with South Africa’s all-format trip to India, as the Proteas are scheduled to face the ‘Men in Blue’ in a series of two WTC 2025-27 Tests, three ODIs and five T20I games.
