T20 Blast 2022 | Derbyshire demolish Leicestershire despite setting a modest target on board

Derbyshire Falcons secured a victory over Leicestershire Foxes by a considerable margin of 70 runs. The Foxes fell like a pack of cards on their home ground while chasing 160 to open their account. With two successive losses, the Colin Ackermann-led side has not had the best of starts in the T20 Blast.

Opting to field, Leicestershire were decent with the ball. Roman Walker provided the first breakthrough by castling Luis Reece for 19 (11). Falcons’ skipper Shan Masood held one end as wickets kept falling from the other.

Derbyshire were reduced to 77/4 in the 11th over. Then, Leus du Plooy joined the skipper in the middle. The duo stabilised the innings and added 51 runs for the fifth wicket. Masood fell on 53 (43 balls), with four boundaries to his name.

The Falcons managed 159/5 in their 20 overs - giving the bowlers a decent score to defend, and the bowling unit rose to the occasion. However, Leicestershire never looked in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals.

Ben Mike top-scored for the Foxes with 26 off 27 balls. Hayden Kerr and Matt McKiernan scalped two wickets each. Other bowlers chipped in with a wicket each.

Derbyshire moved to third place in the North Group’s points table with this win. On the other hand, Leicestershire are languishing at the bottom.
