Before the first ball is bowled, the Bangladesh Premier League is already scrambling to fix major issues. Amidst this, the Sylhet Titans faced another massive blow as two stars withdrew their names from the upcoming season.

Ahead of the tournament starting on December 26, Sylhet Titans faced a shock as Angelo Mathews and USA batter Aaron Jones pulled out of the season. The franchise confirmed the news through an official statement.

Mathews and Jones sit out the BPL 2025-26 season

The Bangladesh cricket fans are eagerly waiting for some unmissable T20 action as the Bangladesh Premier League is just one sleep away. But before stepping into the big stage, the consecutive blows are grabbing more attention than the upcoming cricketing actions. As some of the on-field dramas grabbed the attention, Sylhet Titans faced double blows.

Sri Lankan star all-rounder, Angelo Mathews, who was set to don the Titans’ jersey, will be missing out on the entire season. He has withdrawn his name from the tournament, citing personal reasons. Adding to this, Titans will step into the field without another big name.

USA’s star batter Aaron Jones will miss out on the upcoming BPL, adding to Sylhet Titans’ woes. He has not received the No Objection Certificate from the USA Cricket Board and won’t feature in the upcoming edition. The team confirmed the setbacks in an official statement.

“Sylhet Titans had earlier confirmed the inclusion of Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews and USA batter Aaron Jones through the auction for the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League 2025–26. The franchise would like to inform that Angelo Mathews has withdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons. Additionally, Aaron Jones will be unavailable for the BPL as he has not received the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) from his respective board,” the statement said.

Franchise gets a major lift as star players join the squad

The absence of Angelo Mathews and Aaron Jones has been a big blow for the Sylhet Titans, but the franchise received a major boost with some stars. Afghanistan’s explosive batter Hazratullah Zazai has signed with the side. His remarkable batting can be a massive boost for the side.

Adding to this, Ethan Brookes and Mohammad Amir have also joined the squad. Fans are waiting for a gripping contest as the Sylhet Titans will face the Rajshahi Warriors in the inaugural clash of the BPL 2025-26.
