In a significant development, reports indicate that India’s T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has traveled to London, England. According to Rohit Juglan from RevSportz, the 34-year-old is in the UK to undergo a medical procedure.

SKY To Undergo Medical Procedure

The report adds that the extent of his injury has not been revealed, but Vaibhav Bhola, another journalist, revealed that it can again be for sports hernia. The procedure could take a month or two for SKY to recover. Fortunately for the Indian skipper, there are no major T20 competitions scheduled for the next few months, so there is no immediate rush to regain fitness.

Although a Bangladesh tour is slated for August, the series remains uncertain as it may be cancelled due to Bangladesh’s recent show of support for Pakistan amid escalated tensions between the two countries.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Sports Hernia History

In January 2024, SKY was diagnosed with a sports hernia and flew to Munich, Germany, for surgery. The injury ruled him out of the Afghanistan tour, and it took him several months to recover and return to action.

According to reports, SKY’s current injury could also require a recovery period of one to two months.

Suryakumar Yadav’s Form: A Boost for India

Before the IPL, SKY struggled with the bat, scoring just 28 runs in five innings against England and 26 runs in three innings against South Africa. However, he returned to form during the IPL, where he was Mumbai Indians’ highest run-scorer.

The right-handed batter scored 717 runs in 16 innings at an average of 65.18. Remarkably, Suryakumar scored 25+ runs in every match of the season, setting a new record in T20 cricket.

The 34-year-old also scored 122 runs in four innings during Mumbai T20 League season 3. Fans, however, may be concerned about his latest medical procedure in London, fearing a potential dip in form.

Notably, if the Bangladesh series does not go ahead as planned, India’s next T20I will be in October against Australia, which will also serve as preparation for the T20 World Cup in 2026.
