Suryakumar Yadav tops Pant, level with Virat Kohli after match-winning knock

On Tuesday (2 August), Suryakumar Yadav played a blinder of a knock to help India take a lead of 2-1 in the five-match T20I series against West Indies at Warner Park, St.Kitts. In this pursuit, he broke a three-year-old record of his teammate Rishabh Pant.

Chasing a stiff target of 165, none of the Indian batters looked comfortable during their stay at the crease, apart from Surya. The 31-year-old looked flawless from the very first ball of his innings.

SKY slammed 76 off 44 balls, laced with eight fours and four sixes. His innings was studded with opulent shots, which left the audience in awe of his capabilities.

Surya overhauled the score of Pant, who scored an unbeaten 65 against West Indies in the 2019 Tour at Providence.

Surya equals Kohli's unique record

Surya was promoted to the opening slot by the leadership of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid for this series. Many questions were raised against the move due to Surya's average performances in the first two T20Is.

However, the Mumbai batter made a fitting comeback to justify his position and played a match-winning knock. Furthermore, Surya has managed to hit multiple 50+ scores in 2022, with all of them at different batting positions.
