Sri Lanka Name Asia Cup 2023 Squad; Hasaranga Out, Dasun Shanaka To Lead

In a significant development, Sri Lanka Cricket has named a robust 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2023. As expected, experienced spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has been ruled out of the tournament, with veteran all-rounder Dasun Shanaka set to lead the Lankan lions.

The Lankan batting order looks formidable, studded with Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis alongside swashbuckling batters Charith Asalanka and Dasun Shanaka. The likes of Dhananjaya de Silva and Sadeera Samarawickrama could be significant threats to the opponent bowling units.

Talking about Sri Lanka’s bowling department, their spin unit could rattle any kind of batting lineup, as they have wily tweakers in Maheesh Theekshana and Dushan Hemantha alongside Dunith Wellalage, who was exceptional with the ball in the recently concluded Lanka Premier League.

On the contrary, the Lankan pace department will miss Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara, with the onus lying on a relatively inexperienced unit comprising Binura Fernando, Pramod Madushan alongside Kasun Rajitha.
