Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced an 18-member Sri Lankan men’s squad for the upcoming two-match home Test series against Australia. Dhananjaya de Silva, Kamindu Mendis and Pathum Nissanka were all included in the expanded squad, even though the three cricketers will be heading into the series with certain injury concerns.

Wicketkeeper-batter Lahiru Udara and spin-bowling all-rounder Sonal Dinusha are in contention to make their Test debut as the two cricketers were also included in the 18-player line-up.

SL Announce Squad For Australia Tests

The Sri Lankan cricket team will be hosting Australia for a two-match Test series between January 29 and February 10. While the series constitutes a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle, the Australian team has already qualified for the final after securing an emphatic 3-1 win over India at home.

On Friday, January 24, SLC announced Sri Lanka’s 18-player squad for the two matches, with senior man and all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva set to continue as skipper. Here is a look at Sri Lanka’s entire squad for the series against Australia:

Dhananjaya de Silva (c), Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka, Oshada Fernando, Lahiru Udara, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Kamindu Mendis, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Sonal Dinusha, Prabath Jayasuriya, Jeffrey Vandersay, Nishan Peiris, Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara and Milan Rathnayake.

It is worth noting that the Sri Lankan team has already crashed out of the WTC final as they are currently ranked fifth on the points table, especially after falling to South Africa and England in away series last year.

The Australian team will be taking field without the services of regular captain and legendary fast bowler Pat Cummins. Former skipper and perennial batting great Steve Smith will be taking charge of the national side as Cummins opted for a break citing personal reasons.

Both matches of the Test series, also marking the latest edition of the Warne-Muralitharan Trophy, will be hosted by the Galle International Stadium. The series will also be succeeded by two ODI matches between the two nations in mid-February.
