The Sunrisers Hyderabad grabbed lot of attention in IPL 2024 for their ultra-aggressive approach, and have grown in popularity since then. In every SRH game, the stadiums are packed with a wave of orange all around the stadium, but the same franchise is now facing a setback from the host association, Hyderabad Cricket Association.
Ugly Tussle Between SRH And HCA Crashes IPL Carnival
In a report from Cricbuzz, it has been revealed that the the HCA president, Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao has threatened the franchise, and is blackmailing SRH over the grant of complimentary tickets. The HCA president demanded 10 percent of tickets of all the matches (3900 tickets) before the start of IPL, over and above the 10 percent tickets that is given complimentary to HCA.
The HCA president also locked the F3 Corporate box before the start of the game against LSG. It was the box where LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was supposed to seat, and it was all done to get 20 complimentary tickets from the SRH owner. The franchise though stated that they have no issues with other members of the association and has appreciated the cooperation from other members.
"It is the HCA President Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao who is resorting to threats, coercion and blackmail. Even before the IPL started, Rao threatened our staff with coercion, who in return out of fear wrote an email to him, placing on record the threat he made," a recent SRH communique, sent to the HCA Apex Council members.
"This is in reference to your email dated 29th March 2025. Firstly, we wish to place on record that we have no grievances against HCA's Secretary, CEO, Treasurer or other office bearers of HCA. In fact, we would like to thank them for their cooperation."
"Without waiting for a resolution, the HCA president Mr. Jagan Mohan Rao locked the F3 box just few hours before the start of the game, knowing very well that this box was given to the owner of Lucknow SuperGiants, Mr. Goenka. This was done just to blackmail us and put coercive pressure on us to give additional 20 complimentary tickets before the game."
HCA President Accused Of Using Official Powers For Personal Use
The SRH management also complained that HCA president, Rao was expecting tickets from the franchise for personal use. According to SRH owners, the Jagan Mohan Roy also wanted a separate individual purchase links and threatened to not cooperate with the franchise if the tickets are not blocked for his purchase.
"Few days before the start of IPL, the HCA President suddenly said that he wants us to block 10% of tickets every match (3900 tickets per match) for himself to purchase. This is over and above the 3900 tickets that we give complimentary to HCA. We refused stating that the fans of SRH will miss out on buying said tickets and this will lead to suspicion regarding the transparency of the sale of tickets."
It has also been revealed that 3900 tickets were given to HCA in SRH's initial two home games of IPL 2025. However, the president wanted 20 tickets in a different box, and thus the tickets were returned to franchise. The seat allocation demands were in contradiction to what it has been over the past decade at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. The president has also been accused of taking credit for the renovation work done by the franchise. The SRH have now sought meeting with Hyderabad Cricket Association to sort the matter, and are awaiting the response for the same.
