England veteran, Heather Knight, rolled back the years with an all-round masterclass as Somerset Women cruised to a five-wicket win over Essex in the Women’s One-Day Cup at Taunton Vale. With the sun out and a decent crowd cheering them on, the hosts made the most of home advantage to seal their second win in three games.
Heather Knight Shines With Bat And Ball As Somerset Beat Essex
Put in to field first, Somerset came out firing. Laura Jackson and Ellie Anderson got the ball talking early and left Essex reeling at 2 for 3. Heather Knight, never one to miss a party, came in later and cleaned up the tail with her offies, finishing with an incredible 3 for 7.
With the ball doing just enough and Somerset’s fielders backing it up, Essex stumbled their way to 184 in 42.5 overs. Only Amara Carr stood tall with 67 off 92 but even she couldn't drag them to a big score.

Luff And Knight Lay The Platform Before Dean Finishes Off In Style
Chasing 185, Somerset weren’t in any mood to muck about. Sophie Luff and Knight steadied the ship early, putting on a calm and composed partnership of 38. Luff nicked one behind for 24 but Knight carried on, playing a captain’s knock with 45 classy runs.
After Knight fell, the job wasn’t quite done. But Charlie Dean made sure there were no late dramas. She came out swinging and smashed an unbeaten 45 off 49 balls, peppering the boundary with 6 fours. Katie Jones chipped in with 16 before getting run out, but the damage was already done.
Somerset got home with 14.1 overs to spare, wrapping up a dominant display and sending the home fans back with plenty to smile about.
It was another tough outing for Essex, who haven’t managed a 200-plus score in the competition so far. The top order crumbled again, and despite Carr’s fight and a brief recovery with Sophia Smale, they just didn’t have enough on the board.
