Smriti Mandhana retains, Goswami loses rung in ICC rankings

Indian women cricketers Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma retained their spots, while legendary bowler Jhulan Goswami dropped down in the latest ICC ODI rankings. Meanwhile, several South African cricketers have climbed up the standings and have turned out to be the biggest beneficiaries following their 3-0 win over Ireland last week.


ICC issues Women’s ODI rankings, Mandhana in 8th spot


At 8th, Smriti Mandhana continues to remain the highest ranked Indian batter in the ICC standings. South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt climbed up a spot following her match-winning knock of 89 against Ireland in Dublin. 


As many as five Australian batters feature in the top 10 rankings, with Alyssa Healy occupying the top spot, 35 points clear of second-placed Natalie Sciver from England.


Among the ODI bowlers, English veteran Sophie Ecclestone retained her top spot and is now joined by her compatriot Anya Shrubsole (8th) and Kate Cross (9th) in the top 10. South Africa’s Ayabonga Khaka climbed two spots in the rankings while all-time leading ODI wicket-taker Jhulan Goswami (6th) remains the only Indian representative on the list.


South African star Sune Luus has emerged as the biggest winner in the ICC Women’s all-rounders rankings. Following her all-around show in Ireland, the 26-year-old jumped four spots to break into the top 10 and is currently placed at number 9. Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma is ranked 7th, closely followed by Australia’s Jess Jonnassen.

Indian Women in Sri Lanka for limited-overs contests


The Indian women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, is currently on a limited-overs tour to Sri Lanka. The ODI segment of the trip will present a massive opportunity to the Women in Blue to improve their ICC rankings.


The tour will begin with three T20Is in Dambulla and will conclude with the three-match ODI series in Kandy within the first week of July.
