Star Indian opener Smriti Mandhana has left her mark on the history of women's Twenty20 cricket, joining the elite 3000-run club during the first T20I against Australia. The southpaw, known for her consistent performances, achieved this remarkable feat in 126 matches, taking 122 innings to reach the milestone. She now stands as the second Indian women’s cricketer to accomplish this, following in the footsteps of Harmanpreet Kaur.

In the overall tally, Mandhana becomes the sixth woman to cross the 3000-run mark in T20Is. The list is led by Suzie Bates from New Zealand with 4118 runs, followed by Meg Lanning of Australia with 3405 runs, and Stephanie Taylor from the West Indies with 3236 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine complete the top five, with Mandhana making a strong entry at the sixth position.

The left-handed batter, who has been a key performer for the Indian women’s team, reached the milestone during a successful run chase against Australia at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Mandhana, along with young sensation Shafali Verma, laid a solid foundation with a 100-run plus opening partnership, setting the stage for India's comfortable pursuit of Australia's 141 runs.

The bowlers executed the plan effectively, with Titas Sadhu delivering a career-best performance of 4/17, supported by Deepti Sharma's 2/24 and Shreyanka Patil's 2/19. Australia Women, despite a commendable partnership between Phoebe Litchfield (49) and Ellyse Perry (37), were bowled out for 141 in 19.2 overs.

India Women defeated Australia Women in the opening Twenty20 match with a commanding performance. Titas Sadhu won Player of the Match thanks to her excellent bowling. Shafali Verma led India's batting with an undefeated 64 off 44 balls, while Smriti Mandhana chipped in with 54 off 52 balls.

The resounding win puts India Women in the lead with a 1-0 advantage in the three-match series. The second T20I between India Women and Australia Women on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Navi Mumbai.
