SL vs SA | 2nd T20I: Bowlers, Quinton de Kock seal series for South Africa

South Africa took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka after clinching a thumping 9-wicket win in the second clash in Colombo.

Chasing a target of 104 runs in 20 overs, the visitors went over the line in the 15th over, courtesy an unbeaten 48-ball 58 from Quinton de Kock.

The Proteas started off the chase in a brilliant manner after openers De Kock and Reeza Hendricks put 62 on the board for the first wicket before Hendricks departed for 18 off 19.

De Kock was then joined by Aiden Markram and the two batsmen took the side home. Markram scored 21* off 19 during the course.

For Sri Lanka, Wanindu Hasaranga was the only bowler to pick up a wicket as he returned with figures of 1/22 in 4 overs.

Earlier in the day, the South African bowlers, especially Tabraiz Shamsi and Markram ripped through the Sri Lankan batting line up as the visitors bowled them out for 103 in 18.1 overs.

The home side had a dismal start to the proceedings as they lost Dinesh Chandimal early for 5 off 8. Opener Kusal Perera was then joined by Rajapasaka and the two put 28 runs for the second wicket before Rajapasaka was also dismissed by Markram for 20.

The Sri Lankan team kept losing wickets at regular intervals and one left tottering at 86/6 to eventually get bundled out. Perera tried to hold the fort from one end but he continuously ran out of partners at the other side.

Both Markram and Shamsi scalped three wickets apiece while Fortuin had a couple of dismissals to his name. Nortje and Keshav Maharaj were also among wickets as they picked up one wicket each during the course.

South Africa captain Maharaj later lauded the team for the efforts after the win. “All credit to my team. They made my life easier. We had simple plans and it all paid off. It is important that we keep building on the positives. We could bowl better in the powerplay and with our batting,” he said.

Sri Lanka skipper Shanaka admitted that there were a few runs short and pointed that the batsmen need to “concentrate more”.

“We were targeting 140-150. We knew it would turn and wouldn't be easy in the later parts of the game. I think the batsmen need to concentrate more in the game. We had a good start and we weren't able to capitalize,” he said.

The two sides will now face each other in the third and final T20I on Tuesday at the same venue.

IPL 2021: Flow was broken once tournament was suspended, will have to rebuild our energy, says Dhawan

Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan has said that he is excited about the resumption of the Indian Premier League but also admitted that the side will have to gather again to get into the groove. “I am looking forward to the IPL season. I am very excited to play the upcoming matches,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in a statement released. “We were in a certain flow in the first half of the season and then that flow was broken once the tournament was suspended. So we have to rebuild our energy and get back on the flow we were in,” the left-handed batsman added. The right-handed batsman Shreyas Iyer is also back in the side after he had missed the first half after sustaining a shoulder injury during the England series at home. Talking about Iyer, Dhawan said that the right-hander’s presence in the line up will add to the strength. “The good thing is that our team is well balanced and Shreyas Iyer is back in the side as well, so our team is even stronger now,” said Dhawan. The IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after there were Covid-19 positive cases within the franchise but the cash-rich league will now be resumed in the UAE from September 19 with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in the first fixture of the second leg. Delhi Capitals were in good form in the first phase of the IPL and were sitting at the helm of the points table when the tournament was halted. DC will now resume the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22 in Dubai.

CPL 2021 | GAW vs JT: With semi-final berth on stake, Guyana lock horns with Jamaica

Guyana Amazon Warriors just need to stick to the basics as they take on Jamaica Tallawahs to cement a place in the semi-final. The Warriors have won five out of the nine matches that they have played while Jamaica have won four matches out of the nine matches that they have featured in. The Tallawahs will not just have to win the encounter against Guyana but they would need to clinch a victory with a big margin to maintain a good net run-rate. Guyana are coming into this game on the back of a comprehensive win over Jamaica in their last encounter that they won by 46 runs. Nicholas Pooran was on song as he notched up an unbeaten 75 off 39 deliveries while the bowlers too performed brilliantly and bundled the opposition out for 123 while chasing 170 in 20 overs. On the other side, Jamaica struggled with both bat and ball against the Warriors. Moreover, all-rounder Andre Russell hasn’t really unveiled a performance of his class barring the fifty he scored against the Kings earlier in the competition. The Jamaican team would surely want him to go all guns blazing in this all important match.
