ECB has written to ICC on outcome of cancelled Test vs India: Spokesperson

The England Cricket Board (ECB) has officially asked the ICC to make a decision on the final Test between India and England which was earlier called-off as there was a Covid-19 outbreak in the Indian contingent.

“Yes we have written to the ICC,” an ECB spokesperson told PTI.

The English board wants the Dispute Resolution Committee of the ICC to take a look at the issue. The board is further expecting that if a forfeiture is granted then it can claim the insurance. In case the match is declared abandoned due to COVID, then the board is going to lose 40 million pound.

India’s assistant physio Yogesh Parmar was the latest support staff to get tested positive for the disease.

If the ICC declares the Test abandoned then the visitors will take away the series as they presently lead 2-1 but if the hosts get a forfeiture then the series will end 2-2 and the ECB can also claim the insurance as per the DRC ruling.

The playing conditions of the World Test Championship allow the teams to not take the field in certain conditions.

The conditions state: "Any matches that do not take place due to the Acceptable Non-Compliance of one or both Parties (as defined in the World Test Championship Competition Terms) shall not be taken into account in the calculation of the Points Percentage."

IPL 2021: Flow was broken once tournament was suspended, will have to rebuild our energy, says Dhawan

Delhi Capitals batsman Shikhar Dhawan has said that he is excited about the resumption of the Indian Premier League but also admitted that the side will have to gather again to get into the groove. “I am looking forward to the IPL season. I am very excited to play the upcoming matches,” Dhawan was quoted as saying in a statement released. “We were in a certain flow in the first half of the season and then that flow was broken once the tournament was suspended. So we have to rebuild our energy and get back on the flow we were in,” the left-handed batsman added. The right-handed batsman Shreyas Iyer is also back in the side after he had missed the first half after sustaining a shoulder injury during the England series at home. Talking about Iyer, Dhawan said that the right-hander’s presence in the line up will add to the strength. “The good thing is that our team is well balanced and Shreyas Iyer is back in the side as well, so our team is even stronger now,” said Dhawan. The IPL 2021 was suspended on May 4 after there were Covid-19 positive cases within the franchise but the cash-rich league will now be resumed in the UAE from September 19 with Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings in the first fixture of the second leg. Delhi Capitals were in good form in the first phase of the IPL and were sitting at the helm of the points table when the tournament was halted. DC will now resume the tournament against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 22 in Dubai.

CPL 2021 | GAW vs JT: With semi-final berth on stake, Guyana lock horns with Jamaica

Guyana Amazon Warriors just need to stick to the basics as they take on Jamaica Tallawahs to cement a place in the semi-final. The Warriors have won five out of the nine matches that they have played while Jamaica have won four matches out of the nine matches that they have featured in. The Tallawahs will not just have to win the encounter against Guyana but they would need to clinch a victory with a big margin to maintain a good net run-rate. Guyana are coming into this game on the back of a comprehensive win over Jamaica in their last encounter that they won by 46 runs. Nicholas Pooran was on song as he notched up an unbeaten 75 off 39 deliveries while the bowlers too performed brilliantly and bundled the opposition out for 123 while chasing 170 in 20 overs. On the other side, Jamaica struggled with both bat and ball against the Warriors. Moreover, all-rounder Andre Russell hasn’t really unveiled a performance of his class barring the fifty he scored against the Kings earlier in the competition. The Jamaican team would surely want him to go all guns blazing in this all important match. CPL 2021 | BR vs SLK: Kings eye semi-final berth, Royals look for consolation win

Saint Lucia Kings will be up against Barbados Royals in St Kitts on Sunday. The Kings will be playing their all important match as they face the Royals as a win in this encounter will help them stay in the competition. On the other side, Royals have been knocked out of the tournament after they suffered seven defeats in the nine matches that they have played. Saint Lucia will be coming into this clash on the back of a win against the same opposition in their previous match where they defeated the Barbados side by 14 runs (DLS Method) in a rail-curtailed game. The Kings might be without their regular skipper Faf du Plessis. “Difficult to say with these things, probably have to go for a scan (issue with his leg). Not looking too good for tomorrow,” Faf had said after the game against Barbados earlier. This might come as a blow for the Saint Lucia side as Du Plessis was among runs in the last match and looked in good touch. Nevertheless, Roston Chase has been in brilliant form with the bat while David Wiese scalped a fifer in the previous match. On the other side, the Barbados team would be looking to conclude the competition on a positive note.
