SL vs PAK | 2nd Test | Angelo Mathews surpasses Jayawardene's record

The experienced Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews has surpassed the legendary Mahela Jayawardene for a set milestone in the ongoing second Test against Pakistan.

Mathews, who contributed 35 runs to Sri Lanka's second innings total, registered the second highest individual score by a Lankan batter in his hundredth Test, overcoming Jayawardene's 22 in this process.

Notably, Kumar Sangakkara tops the list, with an individual score of 79 in his hundredth Test against the mighty Aussies.

The second Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan marked the hundredth game for Mathews in the purest format. He became the sixth cricketer to play 100 Tests for the island nation.

However, the Colombo-born enjoyed modest success in the match, being dismissed for 42 and 35 in the first and second innings, respectively.

Despite battling hard, the veteran player fell prey to Pakistan's spin masterclass in both outings.

Talking about the match, Pakistan were bundled out for 231 in their first innings in response to Sri Lanka's 378.

At the time of writing, the hosts had posted 176 runs for the loss of five wickets in their second innings, leading the visitors by 323 runs.
