The Sri Lankan ace celebrated his milestone match by completing 10,000 runs for his First-Class career. The cricketer’s First-Class tally stands exactly at 10,000 runs at an average of 47.84. He has notched up 23 tons in the format, with 13 of them coming at the Test level for Sri Lanka.

Earlier in the day, Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Oshada Fernando and Karunaratne provided a rapid 92-run stand at the top.

After 120-3, Mathews formed a 75-run partnership with in-form batsman Dinesh Chandimal, who struck his fourth successive fifty-plus score in Tests. Overall, the hosts compiled 51 runs in their final 10 overs of the day to reach 315-6 at stumps.

Among the Pakistani bowlers, Mohammad Nawaz claimed two wickets while Naseem Shah, Yasir Shah and Nauman Ali took one wicket each.

The visitors are currently leading the two-match series 1-0, courtesy of the sensational run-chase they pulled off in the series-opening Test.

The ongoing series also constitutes a part of the 2021-23 ICC World Test Championships.
